The University of Hong Kong – Shenzhen Hospital

The University of Hong Kong Shenzhen hospital (HKU-SZH) is a major comprehensive public hospital built by the Shenzhen municipal government with introduction of modern management model by the University of Hong Kong. At a total capital cost of about 4 billion Yuan, the hospital has a total floor area of 367,000 square meters situated on 192,000 square meters of land. With 2000 beds currently in operation, the hospital has already commenced its second phase expansion project to increase the total bed complement to 3000 beds in accordance with government planning.

Since its opening on July 1,2012, HKU-SZH has progressively introduced advanced hospital management experience and medical technology of international standards to deliver high quality healthcare services for the public. Taking the opportunity of Shenzhen and Hong Kong collaboration, the hospital has leveraged on the University of  Hong Kong’s international renowned clinical specialties to establish centres of excellence in Reproductive Medicine, Oncology, Cardiovascular Diseases, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Organ Transplantation and Infectious Diseases. The hospital has also set up an International Medical Center to provide quality advanced medical services of international standards.

HKU-SZH has attained ACHS accreditation in September 2015 and National 3A Hospital Accreditation in November 2017. In June 2018, HKU-SZH was successfully selected as one of the “High Level – Summit Program” hospitals of  Guangdong Province. As part of the Summit Program, HKU-SZH will establish four international centers for the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay area,  namely International Medical Centre, Medical Talent Training Centre, Medical Science and Technology Innovation Centre and Hospital Management Innovation Centre, to advance and promote the integration of “medical service, teaching, research and management.”

The future mission of HKU-SZH is not only to be a hospital that is “first class nationally and renowned internationally” but also to become a world-leading teaching hospital and medical faculty serving as a cradle for grooming medical talents for China.
