Persons can suffer from Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) with minimal or no overt symptoms and manifestations of the disease can occur suddenly or with rapid onset. Acute myocardial infarction (MI), unstable angina, or sudden cardiac death are often the first clinical manifestations of CHD and these incidents can be associated with significant morbidity and/or mortality. Consequently, early detection can provide insight into the factors that increase the risk of an adverse cardiac event and enable appropriate therapy to be administered to improve the prognosis for those at high risk. For individuals who have high-risk occupations, in which they are responsible for large numbers of people (eg. Pilots, bus drivers), an acute cardiac event could endanger the lives of many.
